Mojo On is a single from Human Side On, the latest album by Luback. It started, as these things sometimes do, with a piece of lettering: Lucía Arjona designed it, we worked out the look together, and I applied it. That became the animated Spotify canvas — and the canvas became a video.
It's the second piece I've directed for Luback, after Real Love, from the Miles Away EP.
Mojo On Single Cover
Human Side On, the album it belongs to, is about switching that human side back on (warmth, empathy, connection) with a loose sixties soul spirit running underneath. Mojo On narrows all of that into a single idea: finding the talisman you already carry inside, and turning your mojo back on against the dark.
The video keeps it simple and lets that idea lead. It opens on a switch: a literal Mojo On / Off that brings the light, the room and the band to life all at once. From there it's pure performance: the band playing in a warm, close, retro-dressed space, all soft lamps and analogue heat. It still had to feel real and generous within a single day of shooting, which meant the room carried much of the film and every decision was made before we arrived.
Process & Techniques
We found the space near the Sierra de Madrid, Estudio A Sonido, and it fit the idea almost exactly.
Before the shoot I built a small set of references from photographs of the room and some AI generation. They were never meant as final imagery, they were a way of deciding where everything would sit before anyone got there: the band, the lights, the camera. It's a small step, but it meant the day was spent shooting rather than deciding.
The rest was hands-on: shooting plans, gear, dressing the room down to the drum head carrying the Mojo On logo, lighting, camera, and a full day finding angles while the band held their patience. Then the edit and the grade, keeping the warmth the room had given us in the first place.

Thanks to Cristian, for finding the room that made all of this possible. To Lucía Arjona, for the lettering and for holding the day together with me. To Eduardo Figueroa, at Estudio A Sonido, for opening the studio's doors to us. And to the band, for their patience through a very long day.
